Your receipt
What the calculator assumes.
When a receipt is required. In Ontario, a landlord must give a free receipt for rent or any other payment when the tenant or former tenant asks (Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, s. 109). In British Columbia, a landlord must give a receipt for rent paid in cash (Residential Tenancy Act, s. 26). Rules in other provinces vary, and a receipt is good practice everywhere.
Quebec. Landlords in Quebec also give tenants an RL-31 slip by the end of February for the solidarity tax credit; this page does not produce that slip.
